Nature Work Shop
Would you like to create the beautiful Ryukyu folk craft "Ubur" with the design of nature?
"Ubur" is a traditional Ryukyu tool made from the leaves of the palm tree, used as buckets and pails. It has a certain degree of strength, making it also useful as a basket or tote.
The Bilo tree also grows naturally on the grounds of the Ryukyu Villa, and has long been valued as a sacred tree, often seen in spiritual sites. It has been regarded as a sacred plant since ancient times on the mainland as well, and even today, it is used as roofing material for the "Hyakushichō," the building where the Emperor performs purification during the Daijōsai ceremony.
Also, one of the tools for the girl's Hina doll set is the ox cart (ぎっしゃ). The actual item is a type of carriage pulled by oxen used by the Heian nobility, and it is said that the "birohishashi no kuruma" and "biroge no kuruma" were particularly prestigious carriages used by the Emperor, regents, and ministers.
